"Walnut Grove 9" Explained

If you read my last blog post about what has gone on this year in my personal life, you, I am sure, would understand my need for a new start. I have wanted to "rebrand" and start my own website that has my blog and shop integrated for a long time but life always seemed to get in the way. However, after all that has occurred this year, one thing I learned is that life is short and it waits for no one. So, I decided now is the time to follow my dreams. One of the first steps to this process was to decide what I wanted to call this little shop of mine.

One day I was driving with my twins, who are now 12 years old...almost 13 (how did that happen?!) and my son asked me if I owned a large farm, what would I call it? I thought for a little while and then I finally said, "Walnut Grove." He asked me why and I explained that where we currently live, on nine acres in the middle of nowhere, Maryland, we have a ton of black walnut trees. I just really like naming things that mean something to me and this property has been special to me because it is where I have raised 4 kids.

His question started me thinking about rebranding my Nine Acres Designs business. I didn't want to get rid of my Nine Acres Designs business, one that has led me to many wonderful and amazing opportunities, so I decided to use the Walnut Grove name for my blog and shop while still keeping my main business name as Nine Acres Designs. I wanted them to be integrated in some way, so I decided to add the 9 from "Nine Acres Designs" to "Walnut Grove" and ended up with Walnut Grove 9.

Next came the question of a logo. Using Wix's logo service, I walked through all the questions and options and ended up settling with the tag line "Naturally Curious" because it describes me perfectly. I am always curious and wanting to learn new things, especially in the areas of business, photography, and art. In addition, I am a homeschooling mom and my kids are naturally curious, so the tag line seemed to fit wonderfully. Last, I chose a fox for the logo for two reasons...first, we have a lot of foxes where we live and I actually have several fox dens near the stream on our property. Second, the fox is a naturally curious creature, which matched well with the tag line.

So, there you have it...how "Walnut Grove 9...Naturally Curious" came to be. I am so excited to see where this new journey will take me...I plan on adding prints and products to the shop as we go along. This is definitely a work in progress and will evolve over time but for now I am releasing it to the world and keeping faith the public will respond.

Do you own a business or want to in the future? If so, what would you call it and why?
